May 2017 issue of JetWings, the in-flight magazine of Jet Airways, carried my Victoria Memorial Kolkata image in their regular B&W section – Radar. Victoria Memorial was built in 1921.
Victoria Memorial Kolkata
Lord Curzon suggested a fitting memorial be created for Queen Victoria who had ruled the British Empire for 63 long years. The well-proportioned marble structure of the Victoria Memorial was envisioned as an awe-inspiring history museum amidst sprawling, serene gardens. While it was designed in 1901 to commemorate the queen’s death, the building was finally built and opened to the public in 1921. Its architecture seems to blend the US Capitol Building and the Taj Mahal, and the waterbodies in the gardens offer photogenic views.
